I’ve recently purchased a Mikrotik RB951Ui-2HnD wireless router in order to extend my home wifi network.
The main wifi router providing internet access into the house is from AT&T UVerse, and ideally the Mikrotik wifi router would join the network, extending it using the same SSID, password and security settings. I don’t need Ethernet and can’t cable the house at all.
The idea is that I’d be able to roam around the house, picking up the best access point seamlessly.
I’m Mikrotik newbie, and not an IT/Tech person, but I can usually follow instructions, bang my head against the wall, and get things to work in the end somehow
Could anyone please either give me a hand or point me to a tutorial, instructions, anything…
Hello, if you want i can help you.
First thing is you need to set the WAN (Eth1) connection to your ISP.
It could be usually PPPoe or DHCP connection.
Second one is wlan configuration.DHCP-Server, security settings.
If you do not know not at all the Mikrotik, write me a message, and help for you for free.
I have got a Mikrotik network with 5-6 devices, i am not an expert, but i have got a little basic skill.
Anyway this is a powerful device with 1000mW TX power, so i think you do not need the device that gave you the ISP
Mikrotik doesn’t have universal repeater function. You can’t easily take mikrotik device with only one radio, connect it as client to existing wifi and make additional access point from it. You have two basic options. Bridge ports and wifi and connect it by wire to your main router. Or put it instead of your router.
