Extract config from backup file

Hi,

is it possible to extract the config from an unexcrypted backup file? Problem is that I can’t connect to a maplite via ethernet (configured as WAN) but only via WiFi and forgot the WiFi password. I made a backup but did not export an rsc file.

Thanks!

And why, what’s the problem with you don’t connect via ethernet?
Or from another point of that ethernet cable, other device, router, etc.?

You connect via ethernet, export .rsc and you’re done.

Easier than that …

Well, the eth interface is configured as WAN in this configuration and does not accept ssh/winbox/http(s) connections nor L2 connections (Mac-Telnet etc.).

Not tested, but this may work?

You can only try to deploy the backup file to another device.

Now you know the importance to not close MAC services on WAN side…

Simply open the backup with “notepad”
Is a mess, but the wifi password is on plaintext…
Just search wirelessprofile and the password is written a little further on in clear text

Fantastic! Never would have guessed that.
Thanks a lot

$ echo rextended >> people_to_buy_a_beer_before_I_die.txt

I tried it but I did not come to grips with it.
Anyway, thanks!

I have never thought about that
Notepad++ is a must have tool.

@Jotne, you do not image what you can see inside a backup on cleartext…
(I am not referring to access passwords)
