Factory reset quirkiness

Unexpected behaviour here when I Factory Reset a APS AC. I set the unit into CAPS mode and could no longer log in after reboot [System → Reset Configuration → CAPS mode]. Did a factory reset and could not find it on 192.168.88.1. Tried several times with various combinations of buttons and times. Then I looked at my DHCP leases and it had gained a Guest Network IP address by DHCP from the CAPS server DHCP relay which has not yet been set up.

Tried a further Factory reset and it is still on a guest network address. Shut down the relay server and it has found another IP address from the main DHCP Server

So first of all, have I successfully factory reset it? Secondly, if I have, is this expected behaviour? Thirdly, if I have not successfully Factory Reset, why has it changed from Fixed IP to DHCP?

OP here. Sanity restored after [System → Reset Configuration]. Unit now appears on 192.168.88.1 as expected.

It looks like the Factory ResetProcedure is more complex than it is presented.

All you have described is expected behaviour for CAPS mode. Why did you check this flag?

To enter CAPS mode. Why else might anyone set a flag marked CAPS mode?

Okay, but in CAPS mode it is expected that device has not static IP like 192.168.88.1 from default configuration in non-caps-mode.

So what address would be expected?

None, when you reset your device in CAPS mode by default all interfaces are bridged and DHCP client is enabled on the bridge. So only way to access it is via MAC address or via an IP address which is assigned to it after you connect it to the router/switch

Thank you for this, @gigabyte091 - that explains it. More happened than I expected.

You can look up in docs what to expect:

And Winbox would probably allow connection via MAC, or at least show the device IP address, just in case:
