I have a CCR1016-12G at a location which we just replaced a RB450G with. We are having strange issues and I am trying to figure out if it is coincidence that the ISP is having an issue, or if it is indeed a faulty router.
Basically, we have CenturyLink as a provider of, currently, a 40mbit/20mbit connection. Soon we’re looking to expand to fiber with a gigabit connection, thus the CCR.
A lot of the time the connection is okay, we get about 36mbit down, about 15-17mbit up. Not quite where we should be, but somewhat close enough. This is problem number 1.
Problem number 2, is that the connection seems to drop all together, and trying to run a speed test during that time, shows 0mbit down and almost our full 20mbit up, from SpeedTest.net.
I can be connected to the location via VPN, and notice about almost 20%-25% of the pings to the router time out. Then when internet returns to normal, pings are fine, network is fine, router responds fine remotely, and all is good again.
CPU usage during this “down” time is at 0%, 2 cores perhaps at 2% briefly, but thats it.
I can’t think of anything else that could be the issue.
We have gone as far as replacing the ethernet cable between the CCR and the modem, we’ve even replaced the modem. It sure sounds like an ISP issue to me, but wanted to see if anybody else had any ideas?
The CCR is on 6.36.3, latest firmware 3.33.
Our modem has 4 ethernet ports on it, we have 2 routers, the CCR and a smaller router board for another network we are working with. Both routers seem to go down, which is also why I am thinking its an ISP issue. But here’s the thing. We disconnect the CCR from the modem, and the little guy begins working and operating again at full speed. Isn’t that weird? Sure is.
So again, ISP issue, or faulty CCR? I can’t see anything in WebFig that shows an issue. ether1 where we have the WAN connection shows no errors, shows hardly any data going in or out during this “down” or “slow” time. Ram usage is very little. I mean nothing is pointing towards an issue with the CCR that I can see.
We have static IPs with CenturyLink, and I am thinking they perhaps are having an issue with a core router of their own. But what do you guys think?
