I hope this is the right place to post this. I dont see a SwitchOS forum yet.
I would like to request the following functionality, especially now that Mikrotik has released a Switch Product.
1: That the RB1100 Switch could be used to control several lightweight Access Points, as a central controller. The AP wpuld pull its config from the central controller.
2: The Switch (RB1100 type) should provide POE to the Dumb or thin Access Points.
3: Switch to have usermanager and hotspot inside it
4: Ability for EAP For Wireless security.
RB1100 is a router not a switch. It will be running RouterOS. The SW250gs is a switch and will be running SwitchOS.
POE sourcing switches have a large added cost, heat, and power supply penalty. There is no point in penalizing all RB1100 customers by forcing them to pay extra for POE that they don’t need. Instead buy something like this when power injection is needed.
The one thing I fault Mikrotik APs for is that only the $400 models use standard POE… Injectors arent bad most of the time, but in situations where you have 4-5 APs, its a lot neater to use a POE switch and have 1 plug going to a battery backup instead of a plug for the switch, the router, and 4 APs.
