[Feature Request] Column Visibility & Persistence Issue After RouterOS Update

Hi,

Feature Request:

Please add a setting to make this optional or enabled by default. When there is a value in a column, it should be displayed rather than showing empty columns.

Whenever I configure the column view to only show columns with values, an OS update resets my layout and erases my settings. This is very frustrating.

An OS update should not alter the custom column settings that I have already configured.

I normally do not observe the behavior you described, unless a RouterOS upgrade renamed a column.

However, I notice that you are currently using the <own> workspace in WinBox. When that's the case, the layout customizations are stored per device's address (IP or MAC address or hostname). If you want the same persistent layout customizations across multiple devices, create a workspace with a name:

Make all layout customizations that you want, then you can switch to that workspace on-the-fly anytime you desire. Or you can preselect the workspace on the login screen.

OK, I will try this solution. Let's see whether a future update resets my column layout.

You are correct that lately the changes in RouterOS have often resulted in the loss of window customizations!

I think it is unfortunate as well. Winbox should be made more resilient against column changes, as it very frequently happens that it just switches back to default columns. Before, it usually would just show one or two extra columns that are new or changed name, and all else remained the same.

Update:

After updating the OS from 7.23.2 to 7.23.3, my previously configured column layout became messed up again—it was reset to the default. The solution you provided earlier did not resolve the issue.

Hm, this is a particular case that I cannot reproduce. I've multiple devices that have been upgraded from 7.23.2 to 7.23.3 and no firewall table layout has been lost (not only firewall but I've seen no other table that have changed between those version). In fact, I am using the same workspace file right now and switching between devices running 7.23.3, 7.24rc3, 7.21.5, 7.22rc4 and all have the same layout and column widths.

The firewall table layouts (also for the IPv6 firewall) have not changed for me since many months (can't remember the last time I had to resize or show/hide a column).

For me it isn't an issue this time either. But over roughly the 7.18-7.23 range I have had to re-do all my layouts several times :frowning:
