Hello,
Feature request: IPMI functionality for CCR. I need remotely power cycle.
(recently my CCR “hung” very strange - ping work, but all ppp-tunnels cannot connect and cannot connect via Winbox. Only manual power cycle help me.)
Just use a network PDU e.g.
600$? really? its joke? oh lol
IPMI functionality should add to CCR price no more than 30$
I don’t think you will ever see true IPMI functionality on Mikrotik gear, even high end networking gear doesn’t have it. Have you considered a serial server? Serial is generally enough for 99% of the cases, although I have gotten a few cases of RouterOS crashing and the watchdog not kicking in due to a bug. In that case, I was forced to use my remote PDU to power cycle it. Serial has tons of other benefits for out of band configuration/access.
Last few versions should have already fixed watchdog. If router is not completely locked up you can reboot it by connecting to serial port or mac telnet from one of the neighbors.
It is little off topic, but is workaround solution.

It is very flexible solution, we are using it since last 10 years, with it’s previous, far more less complex products. Also could be integrated with scripts to be automated. Also it has a simple ping monitor to be used as watchdog and trigger actions, like power-cycle an outlet for predefined time.
This is ultimate solution, but in your case, I would prefer some kind of serial server.
We again got this issue - CCR1009 “hung” very strange - ping work, but all ppp-tunnels cannot connect, we cannot connect Winbox to ip, and Winbox do not see CCR in Neighbors.
Only manual power cycle help me.
Instead of reposting the problem, did you try connecting a serial to the CCR to see what’s happening?
The solution is to figure out what’s causing the problem, not adding IPMI on a router ![]()
But if you insist, just buy a cheap remotely controlled power switch at ebay.
I remember I got a 30$ one a few years back and you can control it using SMS (it takes a SIM card).
Similar to this: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Mobile-Phone-SMS-GSM-Wireless-Remote-Control-3-Socket-Power-Smart-Switch-SC3-GSM-/222055305363?epid=1462165552&hash=item33b3871093:g:t8EAAOSwwzhZWEGW (just a random search)
I’m sure you can find a tcp/ip one at the same pricepoint.
Just don’t expect it to be the best in terms of quality, usability and documentation.
Proper network PDUs (enterprise/datacenter class) cost a lot more because ‘you get what you pay for’ ![]()
I don’t think you understand what IPMI is and how it works.
It’s not something that can be added as a feature on RouterOS.
IPMI is a hardware feature. If Mikrotik ever decided to add such a feature on CCRs (I highly doubt it) it would only be for newer models so it wouldn’t even help you with your current problem anyway.
Even if it was a software feature, still it wouldn’t help you much here and now. It could take years for mikrotik to add a requested feature.
