Feature Request: Log Wireless Scan SSID List Remotelly

Hi Mikrotik Coders;

All the members in this form need this feature, because we cant make remotelly wireless scan in the client side.

Please consider this message to make this feature in winbox.

thanks your effort.

yes it is very good idea.

Although I support this feature there is a way of doing a remote scan.

In wireless set a freq. range you want to scan, preferable not too big.
Than in telnet;

int wi
pr
scan 0 d=4

you need to print the wireless interfaces first and than pick the one you want to use for the scan. Usually this is “0” but in case you have more radios in one board you need to pick the one you want to run the scan.
Than set the time “d” to maximal 4 (secs. sometimes 5 might work on a quick scan, but usually radio disconnects..)

During the 4-5 seconds the radio now scans in the set freq. range the AP is not disconnecting the CPE. If the CPE after the scan comes back ‘on line’ to be associated with the AP within 5-6 seconds the connection of the winbox window (in your PC) is not broken and a second or so later you see it coming back alive and you can read the output of the scan command in the telnet window.

Now this is not ideal, because in given time (4 secs) some weaker signals might be lost, or if the range is too big not the whole range can be scanned.
But since we haven’t anything better in winbox, webfig or telnet this is a tool that can still be handy.

But I agree fully that a feature where a scan can run longer and the results are stored in a txt file would be much more usable… :sunglasses:

I hope I am not misread but you can actually remote scan from client side.

You can use “Interface wireless scan wlan0 duration=xx”
After scan complete, client will reconnect and send the output result.
I did this all the the time.

Depends on the condition, But usually I scan up to 60s with 1000mhz range.

I’d like to use a omnitik for range plotting (wardriving your own ssid’s to get a coverage map of the network)

Do it. And tell us the best way how to do it.

How do you do this? In winbox? Or in telnet?

Telnet to remote station and do that.

Just make sure to use duration

Thanks your valuable answers guys. But we have 79 channels and it takes long to time to connect back to the AP. Because this the telnet or ssh sessions are disconnected.

for mikrotik guys: is it hard to put a button to make a scan given interval and write the results in a text file ?
Maybe end of the world came if they gona make it ?
or we have to get a single hair from normis beard :slight_smile:

This feature is asked for many many years now and these mikrotik guys are not able to implement a tool, that is supported by any other developer - even such as ubiquiti…

poor - no more words…
