[Feature Request] More Control over Non-Automatic Negotiation Speeds of SFP+

Short Version;

Can we get a Manual Negotiation (Non Auto Nego) speed of 2.5Gbps and 5Gbps added for the SFP+ port?

Thanks,
Joe

I concur, +1

Keep us happy! Please add! lol

What is the use case? Autonegotiation is mandatory in the standards for 1000BASE-T and 10GBASE-T (includes the lesser 2.5GBASE-T & 5GBASE-T rates).

Over copper, 10Gb/s can generate a lot of heat.
Forcing 2.5 or 5Gb/s may reduce this heat and give increased speed over 1Gb/s.

I back this request up !

As I said previously it is impossible to manually set the speed of 1/2.5/5/10Gb copper interfaces, the standards do not permit it.

If you do not wish to allow 10Gb all you have to do is not advertise it, the devices at each end of the link will pick the best of the other advertised rates.

The sad reality is this is a request to play ‘nicely’ with some mindbogglingly weird ISP gpon junk. lol
