Anyone knows any about multicast? I think soon it will be very requested fature, I’m thinking to move out of Mikrotik in case if it will not support the until spring 2006.
Who knwos any alternative?
We have an application that requires routing of multicast signals.
IGMP “join group” signals from a user would have to trigger the router to send the particular multicast over a given wireless interface to the user.
In this application there are 40-80 multicast streams - the aggregate of which is far too huge to send over the wireless interface - of which just a few need to be directed over to users associated with a given base station when their terminals issue the “join” request, and relinquished when the “leave” is issued.
I’m not a multicast expert but have discussed this with folk enough to think that IGMP support is going to be needed in RouterOS to make this work.
Comments anyone?

As a router, it would need to support not only IGMP (L2 multicast switching protocol), but also something like DVMRP, MOSPF, or PIM (L3 multicast routing protocols). For wireless aplications, PIM-SM would probably be best.
Such support would be nice, but I’m not holding my breath.

Where is MIKROTIK COMMENTS?
I need MULTICAST too. Remember folks, MT is not wireless only, but wired too.
Just to add to the above,
If there is no RouterOS support, am going to have to find another solution to this, which is a shame. Any suggestions/offers appreciated.

I’ll be forced to do the same…
