Feature request: Notepad/ToDolist/Router comments

Hello,

As we are various technicians, and have lots of routers to manage/reconfigure/update, etc.. from lots of sites.. and working in various laptops/computers/mobiles..

What about to create a place in the router.. where we can find comments about the routers?

ToDo lists, things that you have to consider if you reconfigure the router, problems of interferences near.. comments for the admins, that can make our administration easy.

There, you can write things like:

Ei man! remember the wlan2 isn’t working well.
Channel 5600 has interferences.
updated hotspot files on 2-5-2011
changed channel on X
Pending to upgrade license
I reconfigured the wlan3, but remember to add WPA keys..

I know you can put a file in /files, but updating it to use like this is complicated.

It’s only a button, with a white window for comments. Similar to /system note, but not viewable from terminal.

“/system note” was made exactly for this reason. Why you can’t use it?

system note set show-at-login=no

: D!

Ok, it’s possible to add system note to winbox menu too?

Is there any “howto” about “/system note”?

+1

Last page. Doesn’t appear to be in the current documentation (wiki).

yeah! and possibility to display that window on WinBox login

Maybe like the demo license has that popup window just after login to winbox about the 24hr license, something similar for system note to be displayed?

Yes! I fully support this idea!

Example: all my rb’s have poe and eth1 also used for communication.
but 1 or 2 boards in my network have no more traffic passing over eth1.
For this specific board had a power take-off fitted inside that delivers power to jack and connect data to eth2
eth2 and 3 are in bridge.
Now, months later try to log in with laptop in unit for some troubleshooting.
looked in bridge ports and see eth2 and 3 in bridge. Thought that that should be 1 and 3 like all other boards and corrected it… lost connectivity and spend hours to find out what happened! Had to take the box out of the clienst roof to put it on my desk to find out I bypassed the eth1!
One simple little not like “ETH1 not working, ETH in use as POE!” would have saved me an afternoon…

Or sometimes I try some filter rules in a clients router and am called away, than forget about it untill client calls weeks later why his internet is so unreliable. Take a look inside to find some strange rules. Have no idea what they were made for and thrown them away. Only to find me the next day inventing these again because client did have some special wishes he needed these for…
A simple note would have save my day…

And yes, as fanatic Winbox user I would like to see an optional pop up window with the note that can be made to always pop up in front of every other window.

I like the idea of system notes (and use them), but wouldn’t it have been better to add comments to the interfaces and rules in both of those cases? Those will always show when you look at the item, which would be a much better reminder than some note that you’ll more or less start ignoring because it always pops up - and yet only pops up once.

I use system notes for references to trouble ticket numbers and provisioning ticket numbers.

fewi, where you can put a comment in a rb that is in a tower with channels 5500 and 5540 not working due to interferences? ; )

I have comments everywhere, but a splash window is very clear.

System note exists, why isn’t in winbox?
We are not claiming for the word+excel assistant..

I don’t really work with wireless interfaces in RouterOS, but you can put comments on Ethernet interface. Maybe wireless interfaces support the same. That way the note is right on the item that the commend refers to, because you’d configure the frequency on that interface.

I am NOT saying we shouldn’t have system notes in winbox. I would welcome that and I am fully in favor of that request.

I’m just saying that in ADDITION to system notes comments on items can be very useful.
