We recently purchased two 1U rackservers with 16-core Xeon’s and 24GB of RAM to replace the CCR1036-12G-4S’s as the core/edge routers in our network (the CCR’s are too slow handling BGP updates, since this process is not multithreaded).
To our disappointment however, the latest version of RouterOS x86 (v6.33 at the time of writing) does not seem to support more than 2GB out of 24GB of RAM. I’m not sure if this is a RouterOS or kernel limitation, but I do know that it seriously cripples the use of RouterOS as the core router in any providers’ network.
I’d very much like to see a RouterOS build that can address more than 2GB of RAM, preferably 64-bit.
