Would it be possible to include a limited web browser inside of winbox? It would be very handy to be able to connect to the web based management consoles of boxes that the mikrotik has access to remotely.
For example:
Mikrotik is connected to a fiber to ethernet converter in order to get to the internet. I would like to be able to access the web management console on that media converter remotely, however, now I have to actually travel on-site to access it since I cannot browse from the remote network.
Hows about open sourcing or providing a plugin api for winbox? (since we’re stating the obvious here).
I can do a vpn connection. The issue here is that not every computer I am on will allow that. It sure would be a nice feature if we could simply open a browser and check a few things without having to go through the hassle.
It’s only a request. Give me a way to write plugins for winbox and I’ll do it myself.
Whenever I open winbox it says “downloading plugins” when the version of routeros is something that I haven’t opened yet.
If there was a way for us to write our own plugins, then we could save a whole lot of effort and bug reports for you and your team.
Give us a way to hook into winbox and some of us can make your product even better than it is now.
I know that there is now an api available for routeros but writing something from scratch to completely replace winbox is something that most of us don’t have time to really do. If I had the time, I would replace winbox with my own custom version but alas… time is something I don’t have (not in those time frames anyways).
Any kind of help would be appreciated. You are in no danger of someone replacing routeros. It rocks and is the best system I have encountered, however, you have to balance your proprietary code with letting some of us developers be able to do what is needed in order to make your product better.
