Maybe it would be a nice idea to include a functionality like a SIP proxy in RouterOS as I still encounter troubles running SIP telephone clients behind a router running NAT despite the new “sip helper”, which is kinda mysteriously working in the background only. Software like “Siproxd” is meanwhile even included in projects like DD-WRT so RouterOS shouldn’t be short of this, should it? ![]()
Nice idea!
This might also help to get my standalone SIP Cisco 7941 to work without an Asterisk on my LAN ![]()

i guess that Mikrotik told that VoIP package will be droped on V3, but you can use Sip Nat Helper
Well, I don’t need all this fancy telephony stuff at all, but a simple SIP Proxy would be nice. With 7941s etc you sometimes have symmetric NAT issues and a SIP Proxy would do the trick.

Please don’t turn MT into a phone system. Resources need to be spent on solidifying everything it currently does.
That’s my opinion, too!!!
I don’t need all this voice ports and codec stuff, I just thought if the implementation of a SIP Proxy wouldn’t be too much work, it would sometimes be helpful. As a separate package of course, so that people can enable or disable it how they wan’t it.
Priority for me: Very low, but nice G

Hmm… who said that we need codecs, voice ports etc in Mikrotik OS? I only want to run my existing SIP hardware (AVM Fritz!Box) behind a Mikrotik NAT Router and so far it’s giving me headaches only - regardless of using that “sip helper” or not. I have troubles to explain to my parents why their phone is only working “sporadically” and sometimes in one-way only etc etc.
I only need a sip proxy functionality nothing more, similar to the already built-in web proxy. If you look at other projects like DD-WRT / OpenWRT and “Milkfish” you can see that it’s not a big thing to include this - at least not for our competent Mikrotik developers - right? ![]()
It would be nice if it would come as an optional package, so one can install it if needed only. VoIP (mostly SIP) is a big market and for some people (e.g. my parents) telephoning is still more important than surfing and e-mailing… I’m sure that I’m not alone with this issue?!
No, your’re not, we are 2 already GG

The outbound proxy is a normal SIP proxy. You configure your client, the phone or software, to use the proxy for all SIP sessions, just like when you configure your Web browser to use a Web proxy for all Web transactions. In some cases, the outbound proxy is placed alongside the firewall and is the only way to let SIP traffic pass from the internal network to the Internet.
The outbound proxy used by a UA can be automatically set with DHCP (this applies to SIP devices mostly, not SIP softphones). There are also autodiscovery solutions, but not frequently used.
