Firewall / Mangle / Set Priority Question

Assume I have nothing setup in my router except that it has multiple interfaces and it routes traffic as you would expect.

I have 3 voice servers I have added to an address list called voip.
I have connection tracking turned on.

I go to Firewall / Mangle and I add two items:
Set priority / prerouting / source from address list voip / priority set to 1
Set priority / prerouting / destination to address list voip / priority set to 1

Assume nothing - I haven’t done anything with queues etc… Only what I mention above. Two rules in firewall mangle is all I have currently done.

I have two questions…
Have I accomplished having traffic to/from these servers in the address list be highest priority through the router?

I assume setting priority to 1 is higher than 0 (default)? Not sure what 0 supposed to mean when levels I think are 1-8

If I haven’t accomplished what I am trying to do (prioritize traffic through router to these servers only - the rest of all traffic comes second) please enlighten me. I have no experience doing this with MT, the manual isn’t sinking in for this particular example.

Thanks,
Scott

CarulloS, did you ever get any solution to your scenario ?

im no expert at this but will try to answer. You need some queues. And if using simple queues you need a last one that catches all the rest of the traffic and makes it priority 8.

right, if i use the queue-tree i do not need a “catch all” queue ?
