Firewall rule time values keep changing on their own

I am setting up firewall rules to block my kids access to the Internet. I have a rule that drop all “forward” traffic from their IP addresses and and “accept” rule right before the “drop” rule for their “forward” traffic from 09:00:00 until 21:00:00.

The problem is that the time values keep changing – apparently on their own.

The second value often changes to “1d 00:00:00” which accepts everything 24 hours a day. Sometimes both values change to a different time – always broader than what I wanted.

My kids are 13 and 14 and I honestly don’t think they know how to change the firewall rules – plus they don’t know the password for the router. I even changed the password to login to the router just in case they had figured out the password.

I figured I have encountered a bug or I have done something that is causing this to happen. (The only script I have scheduled is a backup that runs at 1AM daily. The changes happen at all hours of the day.)

Router is an RB750 running RouterOS 5.22. This was happening with previous RouterOS release…but can’t remember what I had before loading 5.22.

Anyone experience this problem or have any ideas what is causing it?

Well, I may have found the cause of changes of changes in start/stop time values in the rules I created.

I had previously changed the password for my RB750 router but had “memorized” it in Winbox on two computers in the house. Since I removed the memorized passwords in Winbox I have not had a spontaneous change in time values in firewall rules. Perhaps I didn’t give my kids enough credit – maybe, just maybe, they have been logging in to the router via Winbox and changing the time values…even though they have told me they haven’t been doing it.
