I am in the process of setting up two RB 951Vi routers. One router is at the main location which has the Internet connection and hosts the /29 subnet provided by ISP. The second router is at a branch location which is also connected via routed ethernet provided by the ISP. The second site receives its internet access through the first site. Both sites have their own VoIP phone system and require /29 address for their respective WAN ports to be routed to the internet for remote phones and smartphone apps.
The main router setup is as follows. Port 1 : Internet, Port 2 : Existing router / LAN, Port 3 : new renumbered LAN, Port 4 : Main phone system WAN, Port 5 : Interlink to second site.
The second site router setup is as follows. Port 1 : Interlink from main site, Port 2 : Second site LAN, Port 4 : Secondary phone system WAN, ports 3 and 5 : N/C.
I have the main site setup and working well. I can route external calls and any main / branch calls destined for the /29 address working great. I just cannot figure out how to route the /29 address all the way through to the second site phone system WAN port.
I did setup a VLAN between the sites to segment the external traffic off the main network, but I couldn’t figure out how to nat the traffic across the VLAN connection.
Any solutions would be greatly appreciated.
You just need to set up static routes properly on both routers. No need for VLANs.
