Hi folks,
After a couple of tries, I installed two mikrotik devices using the netinstall utility with the following:
RouterOS version 6.48.3
Same configuration (backup import from files)
.
But I got different Space Available results in both:
RBD52G-5HacD2HnD
RouterBOARD 941-2nD
.
So why this happens?
I’m expecting that the hAP ac² should have better results in general compared to the hAP lite TC, and thinking that the hAP lite TC is older… so this does not makes any sense…
I know that both have different CPU, but I don’t think that is enough reason to have this discrepancy.
They are quite different devices, one is S-MIPS, other is ARM32. They have different architectures, drivers etc. Also you can see in your pictures that the folder structure is different and one has a backup file still present.
.
even having the file still have more free space than the other. As I said before I know that both have different CPU but I think is not enough to explain the ~5mb in difference between both.
.
.
idk, both were factory reset before apply the backup
If you really want to be sure both devices are in same (vanilla) state, you should check disk free status right after netinstall without backups uploaded and restored.
But, as previous posters already explained, SMIPS packages are waaay smaller than others (e.g. ARM). For example: in ROS 6.48.3 system package for SMIPS is 5564685 bytes while for ARM it’s big fat 8255696 bytes. That’s 48% more. Another package with huge size difference is wireless: 729233 bytes on SMIPS versus 2810001 bytes on ARM (that’s whooping 285% larger).
