I was a ZyXEL user and they offered at the time good hardware and software. But as time went on they just got too expensive. I had to find some other hareware and came across MikroTik. At the beginnig, I said "Hay this is a fairly new company and they seem to get it." Good hardware and good software license at a fair prise. But, now as a user looking in. I don't think MikroTik gets it anymore.
There are good people here willing to help out. Debugging and fixing issues and offer suggestions to make RouterOS better in the next release.
If only MikroTik would just listen to it's user base.
Developing software for multiple devices, some are old, some are new, its definitely not an easy job, but should not be an excuse.
Take your time, test it. This is your business.
Some of us, rely on them for our work. They have a good price, sure, with good hardware, but the price is fair. The hardware is good in term of speed, but it lacks other security features that will move the price up, secure boot, TPM, MTE.. but I don't need all of these features for my homelab so I accept the compromise at a good price, but only if I can rely on it to do my work, and it seems that I can't.
I can't recommend Mikrotik to someone else. How about SME? They can't use Mikrotik products if you play a Russian roulette (as someone else said) when you perform a stable update.
If Stable is not stable then how bad is the Beta..?
Just come on guys, we need you to be a reliable brand in the current market.
How is the update process should look like ? I receive the update notification, read the forum posts, test it on one device in parallel then update the rest of them ? That's not acceptable.
This is very strange. I can visit the post by your direct link but when I visit the 7.25 topic from "latest" list, all these posts are missing still. Has discourse some crazy cache?
@BartoszP complaints about Winbox 4 are extremely on topic for the 7.25 release as this is the first stable release which has mandated the use of Winbox 4. There are a significant number of users (inlcuding myself) who were quite happy with WB3 and dislike WB4. When WB4 was released, Mikrotik implied that the WB3 track would be maintained, this did not happen.
I wasn't requesting to 'bring back WB3' but I think you underestimate the significance of the 7.25 release requiring WB4. This is really a whole topic on it's own. I do agree that comments about combusion engines and the likes of that are off topic, however the fact that WB4 is forced is probably the most significant change with the 7.25 release track, hence why it is getting attention. There will be a massive amount of WB3 users that this impacts as it requires an change process to WB4 which has feature differences (or bugs) depending on how you look at things. The user base of WB4 will significantly increase over the next couple of months as users are forced to upgrade to it, so I suspect there will be many threads about WB4, but I do agree that these are separate threads each in themselves. When I get a chance I'll review my list of WB4 bugs, see if they've been discussed before, and create new threads to deal with them in due course.
100 comment about the one bike comment. Beating a dead horse. If a few folks would have hit the flag on the 2-stoke post, it be gone. But it not justification for everyone else to start thread that are unrelated to the release.
It's really the release thread that are approriately gated since many non-regular to read them — to find out if there are issues in the release. There are dozen thread complaining about the situation with WinBox4 sucking, post there.
I get the concern. It's valid. Folks like WinBox3, a lot apparently. A million comments is not going to affect whether MikroTik decides to patch WinBox3. I think MikroTik understands some users are pissed at this point. More just becomes noise.
But at some point WB3 is going to die, otherwise no new UI is possible in WinBox4. Which then means WinBox4 cannot be improved since it's break WinBox3.
Indeed. I do hope MikroTik patches it, since it's fair enough, folks are complaining.
And the fixes cannot be that big at this point, or restriction like no new features are shown in WB3, so it's UI is "frozen". Although that is not how WinBox works... since all the UI structure does come from the connected router, so means router needs to support variants of WinBox. WinBox is more like a browser that renders what the server (connected RouterOS) tells it, but instead of HTML/AJAX, WinBox protocol sends the menus, lists, and forms & how those should render.
Maybe yes, maybe not as the main plot of discussion here is: do comment in proper thread, do not sidecomments.
If WB4 has it's own topics, then discussion on it should be in it's topic/topics.
It's not main opinion - that is the same as yours - but a simple implication that any "drifts from 7.25" should be deleted from 7.2 thread as WB4 has nothing common with 7.25 upgrade per se as is not a part of it, even if it is a "must have" tool to configure MT devices ( what of course is not a valid statement as you can use only CLI).
