Get internet

Hi again, my isp provider uses spf fiber whit mac, i have so far figured out (i think) that i need to add the mac to the sfp port, and i have made a dhcp server whit my preferred ip range, but im kida stuck now, been watching some videos on youtube, in some of them thay add a gateway, i did not do that, but when i connect wht the router my isp provided me whit i see that the dhcp server and default gateway has the same ip. So what im after is a noob frendly guide to get internet.

How is this a Mikrotik issue?

well..its on a mikrotik hex s so i guess im in the right place

Well you can understand now with the overwhelming amount of information provided, it may take me weeks to get through it all for an assessment. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Do you connect fibre directly to Mikrotik? If yes, then it’s probably a hEX S (yes, it does matter).

Anyway, I suggest you to forget about youtube guides, open management page, reset config to factory default, select Quickset (upper right part), select SFP port as WAN interface and set it to use DHCP client. Then change to Webfig (and never ever select Quickset again, it doesn’t handle changes outside Quickset). Verify that your internet is not working yet. If it doesn’t, change MAC address of sfp interface via terminal window. You shouldn’t have to change anything else.

Yes its an hex s, if i do the quick setup i just get no route ho host, and i have change the mac, and its not giving me and ip out, in the informmation from the router from the isp the gateway and dhcp server is the same ip, so i did put the same ip in gateway and local network,ip adress in quickset

Many providers have multiple VLANs on the fiber connection to supply internet, TV and VOIP. My guess is that you would have to set the correct VLAN ID on the SFP to get IP address and internet.

You will have to confirm if you ISP is using PON technology / fibre, if so, will not work directly connected to Mikrotik, will need an ONU / ONT
