Anyone have recommendations for a router capable of handling gigabit internet?
It depends on what “handling” means to you.
You can find specifications on the hardware page for each model.
Those speeds are measured using standard methods and that may not be the use you make of it (e.g. you could be doing NAT, VPN with encryption, firewall, queueing, etc) and that can affect the speeds you achieve.
It also depends on the way you configure each feature, there often are optimizations possible.
And last but not least: it depends on the way you measure and judge your results.
Handling meaning NAT at 1Gbps…
There is more to it. For example, will you be judging the router speed by doing a single TCP transfer e.g. from a “speed testing” site and panic when it is 800 or 900 MBps, or will you be measuring (or guessing) total speed during actual usage by 50 clients who have different connections running.
That can severely affect the results especially on multicore routers. They often aren’t able to achieve the full rated speed on one single connection.
