I have some problems with ptp link (7km, 5GHz-turbo 5760MHz, sr2 cards).
Everything was working fine for 6months - signal strength -66dBm, tx/rx rate 54Mbit. real traffic 30mbit/10mbit (Down/Up), ping 2-10ms no packetloss
Then it was rain and seems some connector got wet, signal droped to -80.
All conectors were dried and sealed. signal strength returned to -68dBm level (on one of sides it is still bouncing from -45 to -70dBm), but tx/rx rate is only 36Mbit/s and real traffic is ONLY 10Mbits/2Mbits, ping 20-100ms, 2% packetloss.
And in extra one of routers 2.9.19 is not accessible through IP anymore (only mac telnet). check-install reports nothing.
Any clues why such degradation of link throughput?
This still sounds as if you have moisture somewhere in the system.
Water has a nasty habit once it gets into a connector of wicking down the center conductor of the coax way past the connector.
I’ve seen LMR with water 10 feet away from a connector in the coax.
Look over every thing well again, make sure you got it all dry, if you aren’t sure, you might have to replace some of the interconnect cables to solve it.
Worst case, and i’ve only seen this a few times in the 6+ years i’ve worked on wireless data systems, is that enough water got on things to create a short to ground at a current node location of the signal in the coax that it caused a very high SWR (i’ve seen this cause SWR’s of almost infinity) reflecting power back to the PA on the radio, and it could have damaged that MMIC. This is very unlikely, especially if it’s a low power radio, but I have seen it.
This is pretty easy to find though, as the link will be asymetrical. One TX->RX path will be fine. The other direction will be horrible (that’s the side with either a high SWR or a bad PA on the radio).
