GPON-ONU not recognized by RB4011

Hi there!
I have an brand new S-GPON-ONU module and RB4011 router. RB4011 do not recognize GPON in WinBox(no serial /name/model). But, if I put another SPF module, it’s recognized fine.

Have you got any idea, how I can run S-GPON-ONU on RB4011? Thanks.

Not all sfp GPON modules are the same.
Most sfp GPON modules will only work in a device that understands GPON.
There are some sfp GPON modules which have the GPON electronics/firmware included in the module so that they can function in most sfp devices and then participate in a GPON fiber network.

EDIT - I installed and tested one of two dozen Mikrotik GPON modules ( inserted them in outdoor cases containing the Mikrotik router ). All of them worked until the 1st warm summer day then all of them bricked. I have one remaining Mikrotik GPON module that still works after all of these years - it was installed in an airconditioned Lab where we pre-tested prior to installation.
The Mikrotik GPON modules ran HOT and without any fan cooling from an air conditioned room, the temp would skyrocket to a temp so hot that they would turn into a brick and can’t be recovered.
There is a chance that your Mikrotik GPON module may of already been cooked and is now a brick - and that might be why your Mikrotik does not recognize it.

Hi Guys,

i also own a SFPONU but under the SFP-Tab there is no information at all. Also i can not get a link between Mikrotik and ONU. But ISP is seeing my GPON-Stick and is able to do internal diagnostics. So it seems that the issue is only between SFP and Mikrotik.

Using CCR2004-1G-12S+2XS with v7.18.2

Is there any solution for that?

ONU is alive because it is getting power from MT router through SFP/SFP+ port. But as you deducted by yourself, support in ROS is missing. There’s no immediate solution to that, the path towards solution is to open ticket with support (e.g. via e-mail address support@mikrotik.com). And I’m pretty sure that they’ll want supout.rif file, taken while ONU is plugged in, so you can attach it to ticket opening action (e.g. e-mail) as well. But don’t hold your breath for a solution, they might decide not to bother.

Okay, that is really funny to sell GPON-ONU and then does not support the own SFP in the Router
Only Mikrotik can do such a thing without getting blamed for it? ^^ Funny ^^

If you’re telling us you’re trying to use Mikrotik SFPONU module … then it’s officially discontinued. Do you expect to support their discontinued product in conjunction with their newest products from every vendor? If you purchased the SFPONU recently, then return it to seller … because they sold you old goods.

Funny , I was just playing around with my last-remaining still-working Mikrotik GPON SFP module. And although it still works , there is nothing shat shows up on the SFP tab.
However , a FS GPON module does show up in the GPON tab.

Later in the day after I posted the above message …
I was doing some test configurations with a FS ( GPON on a stick SFP module ) and I pulled out my last remaining still-working now discontinued Mikrotik GPON SFP module. The two GPON SFP modules do the same thing and use identical configurations , except the Mikrotik GPON SFP module never showed any SFP information in the SFP Winbox tab. Note - the FS GPON SFP module showed everything in the Winbox SFP tab.
So, although the Mikrotik GPON module was still working and talking on my GPON network , I decided to upgrade my Mikrotik router from a version 6.something to the latest version 7 ( big mistake :frowning: ).

It appears that the latest Mikrotik ROS version 7 does not recognize or work with a Mikrotik GPON SFP module. ((( WTF - a Mikrotik router does not reconize a Mikrotik SFP device !!! - WTF ))).

The semi good news is that the Mikrotik ROS ver 7.18.2 does work well with the FS GPON on a stick SFP module.
