I must say i’m very much disappointed after testing various routerboards with different minipci-e or Usb GPRS adapters. I was using the same antenna (gprs 2.1 Ghz) in all configurations - except USB dongle with internal antenna.
Boards I tested:
RB411U and RB411UAHR
RB751U-2HnD
mini-pciE modules:
Novatel 850D
Option 380
Sierra Wireless MC8790
Sierra Wireless MC8792V
USB module:
ZTE668
Ros version:
all from 5.5 → 5.11
Signal strenght: -60 dBi
The results were the same in all configurations; Good signal, but connection dropping down non-stop (once a minute) - stable VPN (PPTP or EOIP) connection is a lotery and i never won. At some point Routerboard just can’t connect to GPRS anymore(dialling,… Connecting… Authenticated… Disconnected. And it goes on and on until you unplug it from power and plug it back in. It dosen’t matter which GPRS modem i used or which GPRS provider. When i plugged for example USB module in the computer I didn’t get not even one disconnect whole night (until IP change). Is there any other specific setting that i need to enter (like HW retries in wireless)?
