GPS & RouterBoard

Hello, I have an old RouterBoard 112 that I haven’t ever used and I didn’t want it to go to waste. I wanted to setup my own NTP time server that derives the clock signal from GPS. I have a GPS board that connects to the Serial0 port. I went online to the MikroTik site and used a new level 4 license and installed it on the RB112.

I have successfully configured the board; it gets the time from the satellites and updates the system clock, then the NTP server!

The trouble is; when I reboot the Routerboard (power cycle) it doesn’t come back up. I have to disconnect the GPS serial port, let the Routerboard boot up then connect it. Once I reconnect the board, the Winbox terminal shows all these connection attempts from the NMEA serial GPS strings. I have to once again manually configure the Routerboard for the GPS/time setup. I have to start by removing the console from the serial0 port, then I have to connect and enable the GPS. I find that I always have to reset the GMT offset to show the proper time.

Although this setup works and that I have backup power (UPS & Auto-generator), I can’t see myself manually configuring the Routerboard everytime it it rebooted… Does anyone have any suggestions? Did I just (waste) my up-to-date level 4 license key on an old piece of hardware?

run this on the board

/system routerboard settings set enter-setup-on=delete-key

it should fix your problem

and the other thing is what pins are you ussing on serial port
2,3,and ground?

Thank you for the information - I will give it a try next week. I’m fairly certain I am only using the TX and GND from the GPS unit (RX on the Routerboard) but I will double check and get back to you.

I will give this a try!

(keeping my fingers crossed)
