GPS sync

first, if i was to consider using GPS sync on our towers how would it benefit our network (consider this, we are going to be adding 5ghz Aps to our towers as the 2.4 is getting very noisy and any new client would be connecting with that ap using nv2)

next, where could i get the required equipment for this process (i reside in south africa)

and then how do i implement for use on the towers by everything that should be using it.

i heard someone say setting this stuff up would not be expensive, this is why i am looking into this

thanks

does no one have any info on this for me

routeros currently doesn’t support GPS sync

really ?

i thought it did as some people say they are using it and i found some wiki docs on it, little confused

maybe show me the wiki links? it’s possible you meant a different feature

http://www.mikrotik.com/testdocs/ros/2.9/system/gps.pdf

here it is, not sure what forum post i saw though about a guy using it for his aps…i think it could have been in that 20km link one though

It’s not meant to do the same stuff as latest Ubiquitis Airmax TDMA GPS protocol. This just gives you Lat/Long position and date/time.

Raf is correct, currently GPS can be used to obtain precise time for NTP server, or to get lat/long for moving vehicles

i see i see,
i was under the impression it would help with the timing for nv2 but if all it does is correct the NTP then just setting that to look at the ntp server is all that is needed.

thanks
