Hi Guys,
We have received notification from Google that it wants us to implement Graceful Restart, is this in the list of BGP features to be added?
Dear Peer,
Google performs weekly software updates on its routing systems that restart BGP sessions. This could lead to a brief traffic shift to other ports if routers do not have Graceful Restart (GR) enabled. GR is a new standard protocol for the internet community that allows a BGP speaker to preserve a forwarding state during a restart. For details, see Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) document RFC4724: https://tools.ietf.org/html/rfc4724
Any news on this feature, its quite important when connecting to (non-MikroTik) peers who utilize this function to perform HA failover for software upgrades (or failures) etc.
Not having this feature means we have outages every time our upstream and downstream peers have maintenance, (as they have routers with HA that need this feature).
MikroTik really needs to support accepting/advertising this feature to peers at a minimum, however I cant see it mentioned in the routing protocol overview, even as unsupported, https://help.mikrotik.com/docs/display/ROS/Routing+Protocol+Overview, this makes me feel like its not even “in the pipeline” right now?
I can see it listed in Winbox on BGP peers, but no way to actually “enable it”?!
