Graphs, maxes and averages RRD speak

I suspect that the dude has always shown averaged data as MAX instead of average. If you know a little RRD (and if the dude uses RRD) stuff there are a few ways to report on graphed data. Even if the dude is not using “RRD” it is still using some recording method that throws away data in order to keep the database a reasonable size. I have not got around to asking this hopefully Normis or another admin would know but does the dude store/show data from the MAX recorded?

Anyhow if they were not using maxes anything older than 180 days should have significantly lower peaks since that data should be averaged down to two hours.

Here is another example, a 10gb link in the dude… Manually edited snmp speed set to 4294967295.

Here is the same graph from another system but “averaged”.

Here is the data displayed from the rrd collected by the above system and for the same link but showing “MAX”.

I am not sure how the dude is determining how to store MAX data but it seems like it is way better than “average”. But it should ease people’s mind who want to use the dude for a long term bandwidth monitor. The recorded data is easy to use to verify utilization even when it has been reduced in size from being very old.
