GRE tunel

Hi!

I was glad when I’ve read that you’ve addded the cisco compatibel gre tunels to the new ROS.
I wanted to try but I didn’t succeeded.

My goal was to make the same tunel, which is created by cisco vpn client installed on any computer.
Which as I was informed make a gre tunel to a cisco router.

Tried the new gre tunel interface in ROS, but only filled is the remote address and there was no authentification whatsoever.

So I’m asking you if anyone has already tried ? Or I’m trying to soon with this ? Should I wait to the new ROS ?

Thank you for your replies!

Best regards

GRE tunnels do not have any authentication whatsoever.

Often you wrap GRE tunnels in IPsec to overcome the IPsec limitation of not being able to tunnel broadcasts and multicasts (which are often required for routing protocols), but all of the encryption in that scenario comes from IPsec. Also, to the best of my knowledge the Cisco VPN client does not do GRE at all. GRE/IPsec tends to be used for site to site tunnels, and not for remote access.
