We have lot of broken groovie devices every bad weather, this hardware is not resistent in any way from lighting strikes.
I dont understand whats reason of POE kit included where we have NOT shielded sockets, can’t prevent discharges without proper shielding/grounding.
This is stupid money saving reason. Additionaly, mikrotik warrianty is not covering damages from outdoor use while we get every ubnt device replaced.
Is this local distributor cost saving or just poor mikrotik warrianty support ?
I dont know why, but sometimes is Groove with this schielded POE. But only sometimes
I think, Groove is outdoor device and we need schielded POE. Also SXT, Sextant and others…
It could be possibe your grounding installation is faulty or incorrect. Please follow the grounding guidelines to be sure you did it right: http://wiki.mikrotik.com/wiki/Manual:Grounding
Its not faulty grouding installation, most groovie devices have included poe without possibility to ground shield - there is no metal parts on grounding connectors.
There is possibility to ground this on own - ground a cable shield directly with additional cable but thats not professional option.
My opinion is based on network with thousands devices.
I’m not using mikrotik poe for base equipment. I use ubnt poe with proper grounding and still every year I loose some devices, all of them where only ubnt till this summer when 3xRB411 lost ethernet. Anyway those where bought 4-5 years ago, so no big loss except work.
If your devices are propetly grounded and they still getting brokent then something there is wrong.
Use good shielded cable, use connectors with ground shield and make sure its connected. Use poe with proper ground (ubnt power supply esd protection work only if u have power socket grounded). Make sure poe/lan cable shield is grounded on both sides. Make sure device on lan side (switch/pc) you connect is grounded too.
I have tower where lighting stikes are very frequent (direct lighing strikes happend many times every year), We had similar problems until everything was grounded propetly. Now in worst strikes devices just reboot, nothing more happends.
