Hi,
I am trying to replace a powerline Ethernet setup with the hAP ac. Today I use powerline to bridge a Mikrotik hEX with another Mikrotik router. I have tried two different powerline setups from two different vendors and I’m not getting the performance that I can get with wifi to the same location. My thought was to replace the hEX and powerline at the remote location with a single hAP ac.
I tried various quick setups with no luck. I’ve been reading various docs on the wiki, but not entirely sure where to start.
Questions so far:
- is it possible to have wlan1 or 2 get an address for the hAP via DHCP? Or do I need to have a static address for the hAP as a bridge? The rest of my Mikrotiks all use DHCP.
- I’m not interested in the hAP serving as a dhcp server, just a bridge where ethernet connected devices act as they do now and request dhcp from my central dhcp server.
Any other tips or pointers would be helpful. Thanks.
P.S. Not stated above, but looking for hAP to connect to my existing wifi network.
P.P.S. Got mode station-pseudobridge working to connect to my APs, assigned static IP, I can now access hAP remotely over wifi, but machines connected to hAP gige ports not communicating.
P.P.P.S Ok getting closer. Traffic does flow but DHCP does not. I.e. machines connected to Ethernet ports with a manually assigned address can bridge from the hAP to my AP to my network just fine.
P.P.P.P.S. This hints that pseudobridge may be the problem, but for me its my only option. http://forum.mikrotik.com/t/solved-dhcp-over-a-wireless-bridge-link/99604/1 The work around was to setup a DHCP server on the hAC just for the devices connected. Based on the aforementioned forum post I may just need to get a 2nd hAP. My existing APs are Ruckus, I could switch to that, but then I’d still need the hEX.
