Hap ac as simple switch

Hi,

i had never heard of Mikrotik before purchasing the HAP ac. I needed a wifi access point with 5 Ethernet port, and PoE for a webcam.
I have a little knowledge in networks.
First time i got into the webconfig, i thought I would cry
It’s very very complex for me.

I have my router which acts as DHCP server.
I only want the HAP to work as a switch with PoE and wireless access point.

i’ve read about the fact that in this case i should not use Port1, and connect the hap to my routeur using another port. It works well in this case.

what i would like to do, is change the ip adress for local network to use an ip from my network, but in this case i cannot put the same adress in both local network and internet.

i also would like to put the same wifi SSID name as the one on my routeur, and only have one wifi network. Is it possible ?

i know it’s a lot of question, but i you could give me some help, would be nice !

thanks !

the system is configured like you wanted right out of the box. no webfig needed.

the default config is wireless access point enabled, port1 for internet cable, ports 2-5 configured as switch.

Hi thanks for your answer.

i’m not quite sure about what you said.

default config : internet network : 192.168.2.107 (ip given by my box to the HAP)
local network : 192.168.88.1

so if i plug for example my NAS on one of the port of the HAP, i cannot access it from devices connected to 192.168.2.xxx network…

if you want them all to be in the same network, plug your BOX and NAS into ports 2 and 3.

Whatever you plug into port 1 will not be in the same network.

Ha ok there is no solution using port 1, ok.

but in this case, is it possible to go to webadmin ?

On the PoE port 5, is it possible to connect a PoE network camera ? a DLINK DCS 4602EV in my case.

That camera uses a different power standard than the hAP ac can put out, so no.

About the network, you are already using some router, and the hAP is also configured as a router, not a switch. You will need some configuration to do as you want. Are you only planning to extend the number of ports of your existing device? Why not replace it?

ho that’s a problem… i bought this HAP because it has PoE…
can you explain me the difference between the two power standard please ?

if i plug the camera to port 5, it becomes red, which means the camera is powered no ?

The voltage is different. Mikrotik’s passive PoE is like 12-24V and 802.3af is higher, 40-50V. I don’t know the exact voltages. The LED may light up but the camera probably not working.

Since you already plugged it in, try and see if it works.
