hAP ac / beginner /Winbox

hi,
I’m thinking of getting the hAP ac Wifi Router as I think it looks like a pretty cool beginner device and has a decent price on Amazon.

I wanted to start learning a little bit of Networking and the Winbox app to manage the mikrotik routers looks pretty easy.

All the videos on youtube that show how to configure Mikrotik routers always delete the default configuration.

I have 2 questions:

basically i wanted to know if I can manage this specific Router through the Winbox application?
is there a way to eliminate the default configuration from the router but eventually put it back in if necessary?

ciao,
Tony

IMHO you might be better of looking at AX2.
Wifi6 and a lot more memory.
If price difference is not too much for you …

Answers:
1- yes. All RouterOS devices can be managed using Winbox
2- yes. Couple of options
Backup your config (backup = binary or export to script) and move away from device.
You can always restore it when needed (script-version not so easy but using text editor and copy paste in terminal, it works good enough).
But you can also reset to default config. So there is little need to backup the default config on itself

hi Guru,

you mean the AX3 which is like $10 more than the AC ?

I was actually thinking about that AX3 but i didn’t like those goofy antennas on the back..

with the AC I thought I would be getting more for my money?

why is the AX2 priced cheaper than the AC if the AX2 actually has wifi6?

Tony

No, I was referring to AX2.
https://mikrotik.com/product/hap_ax2

I know AX3 has those pretty big ears
(got plenty of them installed with my customer, also have one at home as well as AX2)

AX2 is far more performant then hap AC (almost 3x if you look at 25 bridge rules in test results, which is the most used reference to compare with).
Don’t know why the price setting is so off …

Better CPU
More storage
More memory
Better wifi

Only things you loose are SFP and USB port. AX2 doesn’t have that.

hi Guru,

Thanks you convinced me I’ll look to be getting that AX2, i see it’s around 92 euros on Amazon

I’m a homeworker working in the kitchen in the winter where i have my fireplace  and don’t really go crazy for wiFi (just need for my mobile devices) so am working through my ISP router connected to my cisco business 220 series switch/docking station etc…

so basically I want to transfer my work area to a different part of the house for the summer and this AX2 looks like the perfect solution.

I know I could run the 30 mt LAN cable to where i need LAN and work easily so why the AX2? welll I just want to play with it and try new things..

Hi,

one more quickie.

I found some great videos on the general config on youtube but nothing really decent on how to configure the wifi.

would you have a link?

Tony

Google " wifi mikrotik help"

Should come out top of the list.
