hAP ac lite default username and pasword not working

I bought a new hAP ac lite. Box came sealed.
I set it up as per the instructions, but I cannot login to the device.

Steps done:
1.
If I plug in ethernet cable into port 2-5, I get an IP address from 192.168.88.0 range, and I can ping the default gateway.
I can connect to the web interface, with winbox or telnet, but the default username pasword (admin/blank) or the admin/password printed on the bottom of the device do not work.
2.
If I connect to the wireless network that it broadcasts, with the wireless password on the back of the box, I get an IP address from 192.168.88.0 range, and I can ping the default gateway.
I can connect to the web interface, with winbox or telnet, but the default username pasword (admin/blank) or the admin/password printed on the bottom of the device do not work.
3.
tried with the Mikrotik IOS app - same result.
4.
I did a reset of the device, same steps 1-2-3 same result

Observation: the device is running version 6.48.16 as per the web interface
Question: I tried this with or without an ethernet connection to port 1. Does it have to be connected to setup the device ?

Happy to hear suggestions on what to do…

PS: this is not my first Mikrotik device, and yes, I know how to read passwods

And still … you are 100% sure there are no ambiguous characters in that password on the label which can be interpreted in another way ?
1 / I
O / 0
Stuff like that.

I use camera on smartphone with zoom x3 and still I see some labels from time to time where I have to try some combinations of what it could be before I can get in. I even encountered cases where in the MAC address the striked 0 was effectively used but in the passwd it was NOT (the character in the passwd ended up being a 0 without strike, not O). Funny things to figure out …

It’s really rare but I am aware of at least one occurrence reported here of the wrong label on the device. So that’s also a possibility (but a small one).
Check MAC address on label and what you see in Winbox. Do they match (can be different by last hex digit depending on which port you use but most of it should match) ?

Other then that … already tried netinstall ? You can add a startup-script which should set your passwd the way you want it to be.

And another option: contact your distributor and provide them the MAC address of the device you got. They should have the possibility to get a digital list from Mikrotik containing the correct passwd.

I had an ephiphany 5 minutes after I posted this… it is how you described: the characters I thought were zeroes, are actually O’s…
Should not have made the “I know how to read passwords” comment myself
I’ll blame it on it being Sunday morning and no coffee yet. Thanks for the reply.

No problem: been there, done that.
That’s why I mentioned it
