I have a hAP ac lite RB and would like to configure it as; 1-Wlan1 (2.4) to connect to another (not RB) AP
2-Wlan2 (5GHz) to AP (internet access for the clients)
3-Client internet access on the ether ports.
I could configure Wlan1(2.4) on “Station” mode to connect to another AP while giving the internet access to the clients over the ether ports but couldn’t succeed to share the internet through Wlan2(5GHz).
I would greatly appriciate if anyone could help me with the desired configuration.
I’d like to connect wirelessly my Omnitik 5 ac (5 GHz only) access point to wAP ac (dual band).
Clients should be able to connect to Omnitik (on 5 GHz) and wAP ac (on 2,4 and 5 GHz).
Is it possible to have such a configuration?
I would greatly appriciate if anyone could help me.
Performance is going to suffer as a single radio acting as AP and station at the same time will cut the available global throughput in half.
Optimal options:
Wire the Omnitik 5 and the hap
Wireless version of previous: get a pair SXT5 Lite, wire one to the omnitik, the other to the hap, and use it to create a dedicated PTP to the Omnitik.
This way you’re free to use Omnitik and hap 5GHz as APs.
Less optimal:
Leave the Omnitik only for backhaul: use nstreme or Nv2, setup 5GHz radio on the hap as station connected to Omnitik, and make only the 2.4GHz radio on the hAP to act as AP.
I wouldn’t agonize over making the Omnitik/hAP to serve 5GHz clients, specially over a large area as 2.4GHz is going to have better reachability.
Would be on a better position to provide advice if you elaborate on the scenario and purpose…
Parents have two houses (20 m apart). The second one (3 floors, concrete, air bricks) is for guests (max. 30 wifi users). I’d like to put the OmniTik 5 AC outside the first one and make it act as an access point for the second house. I have not tried yet. Now I’m afraid that the wifi reception will be poor in the guests house. My idea is to put wAP ac on the third floor ceiling to increase the reception. I am also afraid that some quest may use only 2,4 GHz devices.
If both houses are just 20m apart, laying a cable will be the cheapest and most realiable way of linking them.
I would deploy a hap ac on the guests house, checking 2,4GHz and 5GHz wireless coverage (is it possible that it covers almost the whole house).
This hap ac would be wired to the first house.
Omnitik and wAP AC will be wired to your Internet router at the first house.
wAP AC should then be placed on an strategical spot, so that you receive the best coverage in your desired “work” areas.
Omnitik would then be placed to either suplement wAP ac coverage on 5GHz; be it indoors if the wAP AC don’t provide enough coverage, or outdoors, if it does, and you have a yard where you want to have wireless coverage.
Yes, this is the best and easiest solution. There is even a cable between houses but no one can find it . This weekend I’m going to my parents and I will do some research. I’ll let you know. Ten years ago I placed “La Fontenna” (2,4 GHz, gain-with cable 6,5 dBi) with “La Fonera” router on parents house and it almost covered the whole guest house, but now it’s not enough.
If wAP ac + Omnitik doesn’t provide enough coverage, you’ll have free ether ports on the Omnitik to wire with an additional small AP, like cAP, wAP, a 2nd wAP AC… or any AP you already own to suplement coverage; there’s an advantage though of using only routerboards: CAPsMAN will allow you to manage/monitor everything from a single, central router, which could perfectly be Parent’s house hAP AC.
