All MikroTik devices I had worked with have a distinct beep when booting up and ready for service, however hAP ac lite is completely silent. Is it defective, I am missing a setting or it just does not have hardware support for sound - it’s a new device and I do. not want to open it up.

yep. hAP ac lite does not have hardware support for sound
beeper is a very useful option in mikrotik hardware. it should be stated in mikrotik product pages if beeper exists or not.
for your information products below that i have work with does not have beeper…

also if you search on the internet you can find the internal board of mikrotik hardware so you can see the speaker if exists or not. this photo is from rb750gr3 that has speaker.
