Hello
I just made an order of hEX s for my fiber 200/200 (will be upgraded to 1000/100)
Considering my wifi device , currently i have Meraki mr33 and on my MB i could get 867mb. I wonder if i change to Mikrotik decide for Wifi
Is there any different to choose hAP ac over hAP ac^2 considering the difference within its av speed ac1750 vs ac1200?
What would be my max rate i could achieve?
Taking in account that hEX s will be the router in front.
If you know you are going to 1000/100 service why did you get a hex.
It tops out for me at around 600-700 for my 1 gig service??
As for WiFI, way tooo vague. Remember most number published are pure marketing crap. For example on the outside of the router
box it will state AC1750. They suckered you in already by adding the 2ghz wifi throughput and the 5ghz throughput meaning.
450 and 1300 together.
Way back when, I used to use the 1/3 rule. First of all lets take the early 54 speeds, did anybody get them no of course not.
First of all they are adding two way tx, whereas we the user frequently are concerned about one way.
So right off the bat one should start at 27 and then figure in prop losses (walls, interference etc). So 20-24 speeds were what people would get if lucky.
I used the 1/3 of 54 = 18 of what folks should get to see realistically for download speeds.
So 1750 = 1300 in reality, which means 650 one way with losses etc… using the 1/3 rule = 433 download speeds are what would get using this approximation.
THings have changed with mumimo and other technologies so not sure if my dated approach still applies.
So yes a hex will handle those speeds from wifi units, but not 1gig from the WAN side.
Thanks for all of that info being shared.
I got hex s because i was told that it will achieve 1gb wan to lan.
Regards the wifi for now i have Meraki mr33 that the link speed is 867mb. I wanted to have mikrotik device that will be handle as close to 1gig as it can. Since i know that hAP ac should be more solid than hap ac^2 i asked if they worth to buy in 2020 since i know that hAP ac runs for view years already with the same spec.
I know that i will never reach pure 1gb over wifi but to be as close to that. I have some docker containers running with PVr solution so i am looking for stable network as i can achiece.
Will respond in the other thread with basically the same query… who told you hex is one gig capable doesnt own one and cannot decipher the test results on the product website.
