hap ac2 died after updating to 7.6?

Hi All,

I have a quite strange issue in my home network and I would ask your profession to find answers.
My home setup: Main router is a RB4011iGS+5HacQ2HnD-IN was running on 7.5 stable and a hap AC2 was managed by CAPSMAN with POE (idk if it is important).

  1. I updated RouterOS and the firmware on the main router to 7.6 stable, then I found in the log the AC2 is going down and up again repeatedly, constantly (approx once a minute).
  2. I downgraded the RouterOS and firmware back to 7.5 stable and restored configs from backup, but AC2 still behaves the same.
  3. I did reset on the main router to restore the default config, but didn’t fix it, even though I tried different eth ports on RB4011.
  4. I tried to reset the config (releasing reset button when it flashes), but winbox can find it in Neighbors..
  5. Last chance was to boot it in netinstall mode, but the router is not appearing in the list.. (Using eth1, static ip set correctly, firewall turned off, netinstall ran as admin, all other adapters disabled..)

Now, when the router is connected to my laptop with a direct cable in netinstall mode, I see in the Network adapters window it still disconnects and connects again. After it reconnects, the usr led is solid, so most probably it reboots, not just reconnecting.

Could you tell me what else I can try out to make my hap ac2 working again?
If it can be a hardware failure, do you think warranty would cover this? I bought this router just a few months ago, in May.

Thanks!

“Messed up” the boot order on this (hAP ac2) router. Only Netinstall will help.

Just yesterday I had a similar problem with hAP ac3, that arose due to a power failure.

Try holding the reset button for 15 seconds until the indicator shows that the router is in netinstall mode. Then - reconnect the cable between the laptop and the router.

Unfortunately it does not help.. Indicator shows it is in Netinstall state, but it doesn’t show up in the list if I reconnect the cable. After a minutes I see the wired connection lost, then usr led lights up, so most probably it rebooted.

if you are windows try this according to some people here disable all antivirus and any other network adapter you have in your PC except for the one you are going to use for netinstall and try again, ensure you have the latest netinstall binary and you have 7.5 version npk, netinstalling 7.6 directly in the device won’t work for me netinstall was able to format my device sending the firmware but failed to trigger rebooting the device that’s what i see at least on linux

IMHO, if the router reboots on its own - it is not in the correct (netinstall) mode. Perhaps - you need to hold down the reset button longer.

Thank you for the replies. Finally I could revive my router!
I found an old version of netinstall (6.48.6) on my laptop and the router appeared in the list for the first try.

I don’t know why it didn’t working with netinstall 7.5..
