hAP ac2 over heated vent holes mod…

https://m.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=10158139002432663&id=554017662

Any details on the temperatures before and after the mod?

Yes… 54 degrees before mod… now 46 degrees after mod… to be precise… super cooling…

I am all for mods, but ffs, stop this facebook crap.
I will not touch a facebook link even with a ten foot pole.

Wouldn’t it be easier and way more effective to power a USB fan on the case? Nice job by the way, interesting that some passive holes works.

Passive holes

  • never break
  • do not eat power (and thus do not generate even more heat to deal with)
  • do not generate noise

As for effectivity, you need higher air volume to take away the same amount of heat if you blow it to the outside of the case as compared to the volume needed to cool the CPU chip directly. So it would have to be tested, in the same environment the OP uses, how powerful fan would be needed for same or better result.

Plus through the holes, the air flows by both sides of the PCB, so the chip is cooled more evenly.

The only negatives I can see about the holes is that they let in dust and maybe insects, and that you lose warranty once you drill them.

Can somebody post the pics please, dont have facebook and wont go there - criminally irresponsible website IMHO.

You don’t need a facebook account to see them. But imagine you drill a row of ca. 1/6" holes through the mole skin case into the largest sides along each of the smallest ones (after removing the PCB first) and then place the case vertically, clicking the standing plate into the small side. But hey, you should consider additional heating rather than additional cooling in your area, shouldn’t you?

Too funny!!
In Winter the garage is kept a comfortable 2-10 degrees.
In summer the heat and humidity can get high, not unusual for garage to be around 28 most of the time.
I attached little heat sinks on the sfp ports of my 260gs and CCR109. So cute.
I have seen fan attachments to cases and now holes, I may do something with the CCR109 since it has passive cooling only through a giant heat sink.

Why not slide the board out of the case?

Hmm A mesh case aluminum would do the trick LOL.
(reptile cage related)

Seriously does anyone have source for small aluminum mesh cages oh about 12x8x3 inches (w,d,h) 31cm x 23cm x 6cm (OR Thereabouts roughly)
Even if in cage format not mesh, it would be useful as one could attache aluminum mesh to the cage.

Actually a DARN good idea … would solve the heat [HOT] issue … but very ugly  If mounted on a wood pedestal might just be very attractive. lol

I think MK should offer mesh cages for extra cooling. Normis could do it with a 3D printer while he is sleeping!!

yes, yes, aluminium mesh cages for proper wifi coverage.

???
Didnt know the CCR1009 had wifi, I better include some wifi config. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

the topic is about hap ac2.. if it derailed to ccr1009 not my fault :stuck_out_tongue:

Clinging it?
