This past weekend I tried to upgrade my hap ac3 (RBD53iG-5HacD2HnD) to RouterOS7 without success. After successful installation, the device would reboot and get stuck in a bootloop, resetting ever 10 seconds. I was able to use NetInstall to revert back to 6.49.19 and return it to operation.
I tried installing an OS 7 upgrade in numerous ways including:
The web-based upgrade option.
NetInstall of 7.21.2 with wireless package.
NetInstall of 7.20.7 with and without wireless package (thinking it might be a storage space issue).
Uploading npk files via winbox and restarting.
Each resulted in the same bootloop and required reversion back to 6.49.19. As far as I can tell, due to having to revert, there are no logs of what the issue might be. I’m hoping there might be a next steps I can try? Is there any way to trace the startup and see why it’s getting stuck in the loop? Are there other installation methods I might have better luck with?
It might be that you need to update to a lower version of 7 first. If it were me I’d try something like netinstalling 7.10 or lower first and upgrading the firmware and then upgrade normally.
Hopefully someone else will have first hand experience and can give a more certain answer.
It's not a storage issue. The hAPac3 have 128MB AFAIK.
When you netinstall are you trying to use V6 config with it (keep-config option, or providing it)? My thought is the internal "crossfig" process that migrates V6 to V7 configuration is messing up. But if you're starting at default from netinstall, that's a different problem....
That's not a bad idea. But I couldn't find any official download options on the Mikrotik website earlier than the 7.20 I tried. Perhaps I'm missing an archive page somewhere.
I attempted it both ways. The first time I tried v7 with NetInstall I told it to keep config. But on subsequent reinstalls of both V6 and v7 I did completely fresh installs.
