HAP AC3 vs AX3 Wifi

Currently have a HAP AC3 and wondering if anybody upgraded to an AX3 and saw a range improvement with Wi-Fi 6 devices etc?

Range is similar only speed is better.

If you use CAPsMAN, the main difference is the datapath config.
AC3/2 don’t support VLANID from datapath
AX3/2 support VLANID from datapath

I’m planned to replace all my AC devices with AX for easier config management.

Hope MikroTik fixes it.

It can be worked around by adding virtual wifi interfaces as bridge ports manually (and bridge vlan setup), but it’s a bit of annoyance.

And, ACL (or user manager / RADIUS tag) based vlan-id for same SSID therefore can’t be setup.

So, definitely hope MikroTik fixes it.

Maybe, it would lower people’s interest in migration to AX. Or, would it increase it?

Given resale value would not be harmed by artificial software based feature crippling, better offset of replacement/upgrade cost could maybe create interest in AX.

Small addition:
If you keep using legacy wireless and legacy capsman, vlanid is supported just fine.
But not when using wifi-qcom-ac drivers (yet ? Who knows …).

An other most problematic between AC and AX is there order for wifi interface 2 znd 5 ghz.

I must maintain 2 bootstraps conf for both generations AC and AX devices.
