hAP ax² : admin access impossible even after factory reset

Hi everyone !

I have an issue with a hAP ax² I bought refurbished (seems almost as good as new when I unpacked it) : it does not broadcast its usual SSID, and is not accessible even using an ethernet connection.

As it is an already used device, I suspected that it might have a specific configuration. So I factory reset the device by following the usual method : unplug the power cord from the device, and plug it back again while pressing the factory reset button with a pen during about 10 seconds until the green LED (USR) at the back begins flashing.

Unfortunately, this did not change anything : still no SSID, still not IP address delivered over an ethernet port. All the device LEDs seem to light up as expected (PWR in blue, the plugged in Ethernet port in green).

I launched a packet capture on the wired network to see if the device was talking or not, but it only seems to send CAPWAP control messages, which are not that useful…

Do you have any idea on how to get the device working again ?

Thanks a lot !

netinstall

Yup, only way out.
Sticker on the back has the password to be used then.

Hi everyone,

Thank you for the replies. I finally found a way out by using WinBox instead of trying to connect to the Web interface.

By using WinBox on a point to point link, it was able to detect the device by its MAC address, and to connect. I still don’t know how, but it worked and I was able to factory reset the device from the interface. After that, it got its default config back and I was able to set it up as expected.

Is this something you already encountered ?

Not really.
Never use webfig, only winbox ( direct or via Romon).
