Well, as the info is not from an official source - I’m hoping someone to deny or confirm the device. Such device is not included in any Newsletter or on the website, so it’s interesting where did this info came from.
Any plans for MikroTik OLT? Would be nice to have some European equipment reasonably priced for small local ISPs.
But, please make it compatible with any standards compliant ONT units, no proprietary vendor lock-in like Ufiber.
Router 5 ports, wifi6, etc. its price is about 99 USD.
This will be very hard to justify with the management to make substantial inventory for FISP specially the Chinese brand around the corner cost 15 USD (landed cost) if you have volume of course, not to mentioned you have single POTS/FXS as a bonus, but don’t get me wrong this is really good product but not with our market segment unfortunately
I guess the situation here is a bit different since huawei for example is banned in some parts of ISP networks.
Usually private customers have either:
ISP Provided router which from the biggest ISP here costs around 170€ (you pay monthly)
Or an AVM Fritzbox. Where the 5530 Fiber for example costs 150€
I’ve also seen some GPON on a stick with Unifi Routers.
If the hap ax gpon will be like 100 bucks i might buy one for my sister as she is gonna get GPON and currently only has an old FritzBox and doesn’t need telephony.
TL;DR
I guess if the price is good will be dependent on the use case and pricing of alternatives
I think that is precisely why until now Mikrotik has not been very concerned about addressing that market, this devices will serve for specific situations when you want it and can justify the expense, not to compete in the relentless mass market of ISP CPEs.
