Hi All
I have been using hAP ac2 few years and planing to change to hAP ax3 because need more wifi coverage and speed.
Would change to hAP ax2 but this one has no USB at all.
Currently I am using USB 3g modem for home automation sms sending from router (not internet - only sms). Connecting over ssh and executing /tool sms send…
My concern is if I will be able to use the same 3g modem to send sms or I will have to search for new LTE modem or somehow it will not work at all.
Can someone clarify this for me.
Thanks
Support for 3rd party modems, apart from basic hardware compatibility, depends on ROS version and not on device type. I’m assuming you use ROS v6 on ac2 and you’ll run ROS v7 on ax3. ROS v7 is pretry much reworked and not everything supported by v6 is supported by v7 … most things are though. So if you’re not lucky and nobody using same combination you’re asking about pops up, you’ll just have to bite the bullet and try it for yourself.
Yes you are right, currently I am using ROS 6.48. I hope sms function exists in ROS 7, at least I would have to buy new supported LTE modem.
Does mikrotik has such supported - recommended hardware list anywhere?
You said that ROS 7 was reworked, does this means that GUI and configuration is different.
Is it possible to clone configuration from old device to new one.
sorry if those questions are silly, have no time to research everything anymore.
Sms still exists on ros7, provided you have a supported usb modem.
Check help pages.
GUI is still the same, some things are too be found on other places.
Especially wifi part is completely different with wifiwave2.
Don’t clone config from old to new.
Export and review rsc file, best to transfer manually using old config as guidelines.
So resolution - to bite the bullet and try myself.
Thank you All guys.
Here is a list with supported USB modems:
Bought ax3 and tested, my old 3g modem works as previously without any issues.
Had some changes to do related with ROS 7
- WiFi access list became more like firewall with allow and drop rules
- my log parsing and sending to telegram script started to fail because of changes with ISO date time
WiFi reliability become better but still not perfect. Not sure why 2 times bigger than hAP ac2, but overall - nice router.
Thanks to everyone
