A networking noob here and am planning on getting a HAP Ax3 for my apartment (1100 sq ft).
The network setup is such that my existing router is in a closet/cabinet, basically where my ISP’s fiber terminates.
Because of the location of this cabinet and the apartment layout I do have some issues with my existing router (Asus AC-56U) reaching a specific corner of the house.
For the HAP Ax3 I was thinking of using SMA cables to affix the antennas outside of the cupboard if needed.

Is this something that can be done without causing issues to the router?
I need quite the same setup and wanted to know, if you had any progress with this setup or thoughts?
TO me, it seems antenna cable should be finde with hap ax3.
I’ve setup hAP ac³ with 2m extension cables. It’s an “outdoors antenna with indoors router” experiment. Performance wise, it is better, than penetrating a thick wall.
If I was doing it from scratch, and didn’t have a spare hAP ac³ lying around, I would not do it this way, because:
total cost of hAP ax³ with two RP-SMA extension cables is close to the price of NetMetal ax, and much more expensive than wAP ac(outdoors) or hAP ax²(indoors),
it looks ugly, very ugly, compared to a neat white box or black box,
it is more hassle and effort to DIY and install.
The speeds are not too great though, but performance, speeds and range is better than from indoors mounted, and penetrating a wall.
For indoors scenario, to mount antennas outside of networking cabinet, I would definitely go with combination of:
an access point, mounted outside of cabinet, powered by PoE-in (single-cable in for both, power and 1Gbps connection),
a router in a cabinet, Ideally, with PoE-out support - as that would not increase amount of power bricks needed in the cabinet, and remove the need for PoE injector.
