hAP ax3 Vs cAP ax for non ceiling mount

Ceiling mounting APs is not feasible in my property, but I do have ethernet ports in several rooms.

My choices are either:

  • cAP placed in non ceiling locations (TV unit / top of Comms rack in office / etc) albeit not optimal given radiation patterns etc
  • hAP placed in same locations, but possibly more optimal form factor.

Either will be managed by capsman running on a rb5009.

Which would you go for? I'll be powering these with PoE and will have 3/4 AP’s in total.

Thanks!

It depends a lot on you house plant and where you have the ethernet cable available.
cAP Ax and both hap Ax2 and 3 are omnidirectional.

They are better in the center of a coverage radius (the higher the better, hence ceiling or near ceiling, let's say on top of a library).

If you have ethernet near corners, you could think of wAP Ax's (theoretical 180° width beam, more like 90-120° in real world), see:
wAP ax - best orientation

BTW the hap Ax3 - generally speaking - has a very negative WAF (Wife Appreciation Factor), whilst the wAP Ax has usually a very positive one.

Corner or wall, then i would also go for Wap.

Yes, WAP ax's here, which come with an optional use stand. The unit has some weight to it and stays put when the cats walk past.

Thanks for the replies. The wAP does look promising, not sure why I didn't consider it before, maybe as it's marketed primarily as a rugged outdoor device, but obviously no issue using it indoors.
