Hi guys. first of all, please have patience with me, im a total beginner. I have 2 mikrotiks: hAP lite and hAP mini. I need to put hAP lite in the range of the existing wireless router and set it up as an client access point. then i have to connect hAP lite with a LAN cable to hAP mini which will be an classic AP for wireless laptops (i also need LAN ports for wired computers for internet on hAP mini). i dont even know how to set this up using the “quick set” functions on the devices. Can someone please guide me to the solution?
Ok, i managed to get this combinations working. This is how i made it:
isp router connected over WiFi to hap lite(cpe mode)
Hap lite connected over lan cable to hap mini(home AP mode)
I bridged all interfaces/ports to LAN on both devices and set static ip adresses on both devices in the isp router range but outside of its dhcp range.
Questions:
- Why is speed over WiFi very slow (1.5 - 3 mbps) when a device is connected over WiFi to hap mini? If i connect devices over lan cable to hap mini or hap lite the speed is normal (cca 12-15 mbps)? There are no obstructions, everything is next to each other currently and there is no channel interference.
- Is this setup the same as using one mikrotik as range extender or does this eliminate one wireless hop that cuts the speed in half?
Update: i managed to rule out the hap mini as the culprit, i guess. I connected an old airlive air4g router (instead of hap mini), configured it as a regular AP and i still get the same bad speed results. Please someone enlighten me ![]()
Anyone?
