hAP lite is not my final IDU

I am disappointed by hAP lite because this time we are close to goal, but we don’t have yet the “final” IDU for large scale deployment. I’m speaking about “indoor unit” for wisp’s home customers, that have a wireless device on the roof (ODU).
Now we are using "other vendor "poe and “other vendor” wifi/switch device.

I asked years ago for a product similar to hAP Lite BUT with:

  1. One Poe out (with surge protector) for ODU connection. So we have for example sxt->ethernet cable->IDU, with only one power supply, and STOP!
  2. At least two programmable LEDs, for rapid internet checking and inspection (works, / don’t works).

Benefits:

  1. No Poe dedicated for odu and one ethernet cable instead two. This means we can have reduction of involuntary disconnections by customer and related problems. 99% of my customers doesn’t know how “poe” works.
  2. With status led in few seconds we can understand which problem customer has when he calls us, now we waste a lot of time to check his network by phone.
Less telephone calls, faster calls and simple management for first level support, that is…lower costs!
We need one simple device to deploy in all customers houses!

We already have other devices that match your requirements.
For example: http://routerboard.com/RB951Ui-2HnD

Thanks Normis,
RB951Ui-2HnD is not cheap enough for large-scale installations, we need also earth grounding and surge protection, and better design about ports and leds.
I think mikrotik can create a product to meet this need, many wips are growing: we are passing from a few hundred to many thousands of customers…I think a standard and cheap idu can help us.

Let us look at it this way:

  • hAP has four ports, good wireless, strong CPU, powered by USB is just $21.95
  • RB951Ui has five ports, has PoE output that requires different power parts, has 4x more RAM, has higher antenna gain, has abiliity to use USB modem and other things. And is just $59

PoE out would not be possible with the hAP lite powering method, so adding completely new power system would increase the price, so why not simply use existing product RB951Ui ?
