I’ve just purchased a HAP Lite RB941-2nD router 2 days ago, but before purchasing I’ve already watched a bunch of YouTube tutorials for the past few weeks on how to control bandwidth using simple queues. Basically what I need to do - is to limit the usage of download/upload on 6 client desktop computers and 1 desktop (my main computer) so total of 7 computers to share a 3Mb download and 1Mb upload speed as at this point of writing I’m still using a software-based application to limit the computers individual bandwidth usage.
My first reference to Mikrotik Routers is actually a couple of videos on Youtube as I believe they will be easy to follow by newbies. This is the last video that I have watched “Simple Way Limiting Bandwidth on Mikrotik Winbox” (youtube.com/watch?v=wBVqzYYnAJ8), as it looks really simple to follow but sadly I can’t make it work on my newly bought HAP lite router.
Here are some information before/after buying Mikrotik HAP lite:
1.My ISP is a cable internet with 3mb download and 1mb upload
2. MY ISP modem is connected to a CISCO WRT320N (now on the HAP LITE)
3. My main desktop computer (not a server actually) is directly connected to the CISCO router
4. A switch is connected to the other LAN port of the CISCO router. (now on the HAP LITE)
Created a simple queues for each computers with the desired bandwidth limitation (7 simple queues)
Created another simple queue for the total bandwidth given by my ISP.
I’ve used the YouTube video above as a guide on setting-up my own simple queue configuration.
Please Advice what I need to do to make it work. Do i need to adjust some settings on the ISP modem/router as this modem comes with a built-in wifi. I also want to emphasized that I’ve reset the HAP lite router once because I have deleted one of the ip’s on the IP addresses menu and I wasn’t able to connect on the internet at all during this time and after resetting the router, I was able to connect to the internet using all the desktop computers.
