hAP-Lite throughput and HDD memory woes

Hi all,

I couldn’t find any specific similar posts so thought I’d start one.

I’m migrating my network CPE’s from TP-Link indoor to hAP-Lite for the obvious benefits of end-to-end communication and control. My network is now purely Mikrotik running OSPF with PPPoE and RADIUS to authenticate clients.

So here’s the issue, without showing any /int pr etc. I have my factory set hAP-Lite running 6.44.3 with no firewall rules upgraded for PWL functionality and the throughput is erratic at times, but mainly slow. I’ve tried various things with fast path, turning RSTP off etc. but still the issue persists.

Now that I have around 30 of these out and am making use of the PWL line of products, I was hoping to replace the TP-Links I’ve been using for the indoor router to give an end-to-end solution through MT.

So the first issue is the throughput both on wlan and ether, the only thing I could work out is that it’s probably upload being throttled through the bridge hence changing STP to none, but no fix. Speed available is 40Mbps+ when the issue occurs I get 0~4Mbps otherwise I get full speed, I’ve seen elsewhere on here it may be temperature related, it is hot here right now, but that doesn’t explain the issue as I’ve moved a suspect setup through 4 properties the same setup in each just changing the SSID and password through Caps-MAN and I now have it here working perfectly, same setup. The PWL has no effect in this scenario, but thought I’d mention it just in case.

So the second issue I have is this:
ROS-hAP.PNG
This is from a new install where I thought I could diagnose and cure the problem remotely, so I decided to upgrade the SW. You can also see the current speed issue, 381KB in 18 seconds on a 50/30 delimited Internet connection. This file is being fetched directly onto the hAP-Lite across their PPPoE connection, I did upgrade it to 6.44.3 when I was there and installed to get the PWL functionality, but now I can’t do anything!

To say I’m disappointed is an understatement as it’s hard enough trying to deploy, upgrade, maintain, expand and deal with my network as it is, without having to then start diagnosing stuff that should just work straight out of the box.

I’ve been using ROS since 4.17 so have had plenty of practice ironing out and working round issues, but this is beyond me and I’m not even going to waste anymore time. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it, just give me something that works!

The space issue is not a big thing, just download the separate packages and apply them. There is a thread that discussed that topic on this forum.

Regarding speed issues, I have an install base of about 1200 Hap Lite’s, speed I get through them is 100mb/s when connected wired, and between 60 and 65 mb/s across wifi, both tests done to speedtest.net

Thanks CZFan for the answer, however, I think this is probably an issue specific to 6.44.3, but I was hoping not to have to drive out there to manually do the upgrade, as I said, I did upgrade from the stock software to get the PWL functionality, so I’m thinking I can do the same if I’m there.

So I upgraded a client with a hAP-Lite and 1 PWL, got it all working with CAPs-Man no problem, everything working great. Went back the next day to do the same for the 3 neighbours and got told that the speed was appalling, could’t even FaceTime. So I swapped it back for how it was and everything was back to normal.

I then took that same setup to another client and changed the SSID and password to suit them and the same thing happened. Immediate slow connection, so I took it away and have had it setup at mine for a week, initially I was playing with various settings, but still poor throughput, then after a subsequent reboot the kit came back on without problems and has been working great since so 2 days ago I installed it another client and it still appears to be OK.

During my various setting changes and tests, the only thing I could work out was that the upload was stalling since speedtest.net kept reporting a control file upload error, download was really slow, like 400Kbps on a 50Mbps connection 7 hops away where I would normally pull ~35Mbps.

I will keep monitoring this, but am reluctant to just change stuff for the sake of it, I want to know what the issue is so I KNOW what to do, not just hope that one of my changes works. I’ll put the latest SW for another upgrade I’ll be doing today and see if the newer SW is the cure.

The PWL doesn’t seem to be a factor in this issue, I rather think it’s something with the PPPoE session, or maybe ether1 since I can pull full speed to the SXT connected to my network, but not through the PPPoE session on the hAP-Lite. I also had the issue when I put all ports in the Bridge and create a PPPoE session through my network directly to my laptop which again only points to the PPPoE session and or ether1, when I do the same directly on the SXT no problems, also when I test through Bridge ports on the hAP-Lite, no speed problems.

I forgot to add to my post, the speeds were via PPPoE->VLAN connection.

Maybe put config (export hide-sensitive) here, we can pick up a typo error or something
